LGBTQ+ Law & Policy Series 2020 Session 3

Session 3:
Employers’ roles in creating supportive communities for LGBTQ+ youth

School/Sports: Whether it’s in the hallways at school or participating in afterschool sports, LGBTQ+ youth are at risk for harassment, bullying and discrimination and are too often neglected and unprotected by the institutions responsible for their care.

Homeless/Foster Care: LGBTQ+ young people are over-represented in foster care, juvenile justice systems and homeless settings. These youth face the prospect of neglect, discrimination and abuse by the child welfare systems.

Healthcare: LGBTQ+ youth often experience significant disparities due to lack of healthcare providers’ awareness and insensitivity to their unique needs.
