Georgia Lawyers for the Freedom to Marry is a project of Southerners for the Freedom to Marry and Georgia Equality.

Today, Southerners for the Freedom to Marry – in partnership with Georgia Equality – launched a pledge signed by 206 lawyers who support the freedom of same-sex couples in Georgia to marry.  The attorneys cite the constitutional provisions of liberty and equality under the law for all residents. Queer Youth Lead The South Action Camp is an interactive training camp for queer and trans youth living in the southeast. At QYLTS Action Camp participants learn about anti-oppression, social justice, and how to take their GSA organizing to the next level and bring positive change to their schools, communities and states! Mayors for the Freedom to Marry is a broad-based and nonpartisan group of mayors who believe that all people should be able to share in the love and commitment of marriage. As of writing this email, there are four mayors from our home state of Georgia who have signed on, including Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, who is a Co-Chair of Mayors for the Freedom to Marry. Yesterday, Judge Michael Boggs sat for confirmation hearings in front of the Judiciary Committee of the US Senate having been nominated for Judge of the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Today, Georgia Equality and the Human Rights Campaign Atlanta Steering Committee will be sending a letter to Georgia’s US Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson encouraging them to oppose Judge Boggs’ nomination.
