Pocket of Faith: June 2025

Pocket of Faith is a monthly newsletter directly geared towards the intersection of LGBTQ+ human rights and faith. We are proud to showcase this important subject, revealing that faith, religion, and LGBTQ+ rights co-exist in harmony and not in opposition.

Written by Jai Davis (they/them), faith organizer for Georgia Equality

Beloved Community,

I’m writing to invite you into something sacred. Something urgent. Something deeply rooted in the transformative power of collective gathering, storytelling, and truth.

On Sunday, June 22nd from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Atlanta Friends Meeting (701 W Howard Ave, Decatur, GA), we’ll be hosting:

Sacred Bodies, Sacred Rights: A Community Conversation on Trans Rights, Faith, and Advocacy

This town hall will be a sacred space where trans people of faith, spiritual leaders, elected officials, and community members come together to reflect, witness, and organize. At a time when anti-trans legislation continues to rise, and faith is too often misused as a weapon, we are reclaiming it as a source of strength, justice, and healing.

Together, we will hold a powerful conversation about the real challenges facing trans communities—and how faith leaders, allies, and advocates can respond with courage and conviction. This is a call not only to witness, but to act.

Why show up?
Because trans people are sacred.
Because faith, when rooted in love and justice, is a powerful force for liberation.
Because our silence cannot be louder than the violence our communities face.
Because we all have a role to play in shaping a more loving world.

This gathering is open to all: trans folks, cis allies, people of faith, people healing from faith, and those simply searching for a space of belonging. RSVP to attend here.

🅿️ We’re working with Atlanta Friends Meeting to ensure clear parking directions and signage.

🎙️ New Podcast Episode – Sacred Conversations with Senator Kim Jackson
We’re also thrilled to announce that a new episode of the Sacred Conversations podcast drops on Friday, June 6th on all major streaming platforms!

In this powerful episode, we sit down with Senator Kim Jackson, Episcopal priest, and advocate, for a heartfelt conversation on Faith and Advocacy.

We explore:
✨ Her call to ministry and political leadership
✨ Why faith is inseparable from the work of justice
✨ What people of all faith traditions are being called to do in this moment

Senator Jackson offers wisdom, grounding, and a compelling invitation for us all to be bold in our truth, bold in our faith, and bold in our solidarity. Whether you’re new to advocacy or deeply embedded in faith-rooted organizing, this episode will move and challenge you.

Be sure to listen, share, and let it prepare your heart for the town hall to come.

🌿 A Grounding Practice

Before you move on with your day, I invite you to pause for just a moment. Wherever you are, take a deep breath. Let your shoulders relax. Feel your feet on the ground. Let this affirmation rise in you—softly or boldly:

I am sacred.
My body is sacred.
The people I fight for are sacred.
This work is sacred.
The world we dream of is possible.

Hold this truth with you as we move toward June 22nd—and as we move through this world together.

With deep love, fierce hope, and sacred solidarity,

Jai
