Pocket of Faith: April 2024

Pocket of Faith is a monthly newsletter directly geared towards the intersection of LGBTQ+ human rights and faith. We are proud to showcase this important subject, revealing that faith, religion, and LGBTQ+ rights co-exist in harmony and not in opposition.

The Intersections of Faith & HIV

Dear Georgians,

As we reflect on our recent victories in defeating anti-trans bills in our state, it’s crucial to acknowledge the ongoing work ahead of us. While we celebrate progress, we must remain vigilant in our efforts to create a truly inclusive and equitable environment for all individuals, especially those who are often marginalized and overlooked.

One of the intersections that demand our attention is the convergence of faith and HIV. In a world where the otherness of individuals is too often disregarded, we recognize the importance of addressing this intersection to ensure that resources and support reach those who need them most.

In many cases, individuals living with HIV face stigma and discrimination, exacerbating their already challenging circumstances. As people of faith, we are called to embrace compassion,
understanding, and support for all members of our community, regardless of their HIV status or any other aspect of their identity.

By acknowledging the intersections of faith and HIV, we can work together to dismantle barriers, challenge prejudices, and create spaces of inclusion and acceptance. Our faith communities have the power to be sources of healing, support, and advocacy for those affected by HIV, offering love and solidarity in the face of stigma and discrimination.

While we celebrate our recent successes, we also recognize that there is still much work to be done. Together, we can continue to advocate for policies and practices that promote equality and justice for all individuals, regardless of their gender identity, sexual orientation, HIV status, or any other characteristic. I invite you to join us in this fight for inclusion and equity. Together, we can create a world where everyone is valued, respected, and supported, regardless of who they are or whom they love.
