The Board of Directors of Georgia Equality, the state’s largest advocacy organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Georgians and allies, is proud to announce its first round of endorsements in primary and nonpartisan races for the upcoming 2022 election cycle.
“We have just concluded an historic legislative session for LGBTQ Georgians, and we know better than ever that if our movement toward full equality in Georgia is to continue to see success, it is imperative that LGBTQ Georgians and our allies are represented at all levels of government. It is vital for us to support and elect officials who are guided by a fundamental belief in LGBTQ equality and aren’t afraid to stand up and say so ” said Jeff Graham, executive director at Georgia Equality.
Our first round of endorsed candidates represent some of LGBTQ Georgia’s best advocates. Georgia Equality has worked extensively with each of them in the past, and we’re excited to support their candidacies and continue to work with them after they win their races,” continued Graham.
At this time, when many people seeking elected office are supportive of the LGBTQ community, the Georgia Equality Board of Directors will issue an endorsement for a candidate who we feel is best placed to advance our policy agenda. The lack of an endorsement should not necessarily be viewed as a negative reflection of a particular candidate’s views on LGBTQ issues in general. Georgia Equality will continue to assess candidates and will release additional endorsements before early voting begins on May 2, 2022 as we continue the work of electing fair-minded officials in Georgia.
