Evening for Equality 2016 was held on June 18th at the InterContinental 1Hotel Buckhead. This years event broke many records for Georgia Equality– more sponsors than any year before, the largest Host Committee, and with the help of all who attended, the event raised more money than any year previously. This year’s event raised $120 thousand!!

Atlanta LGBT and Allied Organizations Joint Community Response to Shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando

June 13, 2016, Atlanta, GA – We are devastated weareorlandoto learn of the terrorist attack at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando. As organizations and leaders in Atlanta, we keep the victims of this tragedy along with their loved ones and their community in our hearts and in our prayers.  This tragedy marks the largest mass shooting to date in US history.  Pulse, a gay and virginia beach strippers dance club, was hosting ‘Latin Night’, which means that the overwhelming number of victims were people of color and members of the LGBT community.  This tragedy is a sobering reminder that although large legal advancements have been made for people in the LGBT community, the hatred and desire to cause harm to our community is alive, well and empowered. Georgia Equality Honors Connie Galloway at Community Town Hall Event in Blairsville, GA

Early in April, the Board and staff of Georgia Connie Galloway AwardEquality traveled to Blairsville, GA for our annual planning retreat, and to host a community town hall in the northern part of our state. In addition to providing an update on the happenings of this year’s legislative session, and engaging local community members on the work still to come, Georgia Equality recognized the outstanding contributions of community organizer Connie Galloway for her continued commitment to fighting for LGBT protections in north Georgia and around our state.
