Pocket of Faith: December 2024

Pocket of Faith is a monthly newsletter directly geared towards the intersection of LGBTQ+ human rights and faith. We are proud to showcase this important subject, revealing that faith, religion, and LGBTQ+ rights co-exist in harmony and not in opposition.

Reflecting on World AIDS Day

Dear community,

As we honor World AIDS/HIV Day– which was December 1st– we are reminded of the ongoing struggles faced by our siblings living with HIV. This day is not only a moment for remembrance but also a call to action—a reminder to continue the fight for dignity, equality, and access to healthcare for all those affected by HIV.

The fight against HIV is not just a medical issue, but a human rights issue. It is a call for a world where no one is left behind—where every person, regardless of their status, identity, or background, has access to the care and support they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives. This is a fight we must all take part in, as we work toward creating communities that value justice, love, and equity for everyone.

As people of faith, we are called to stand with those who are marginalized, to amplify voices that have been silenced, and to create spaces of compassion and support. HIV is not just a disease; it is a reminder of the systemic inequalities that many continue to face. We must advocate for policies that ensure access to life-saving treatments, challenge the stigma that surrounds HIV, and foster understanding and acceptance within our communities.

On this World AIDS/HIV Day, let us reflect on the journey we’ve walked together, honor the lives of those we’ve lost, and renew our commitment to the work ahead. Let us continue to build a world where all people can live free from discrimination and fear, with the full dignity and rights they deserve.

As we move forward, let us remember that each step taken on behalf of our siblings living with HIV is an act of faith. Together, we can create a future where health, equity, and justice prevail for all.

In faith and solidarity,

Jai Davis
