Pocket of Faith: September 2024

Pocket of Faith is a monthly newsletter directly geared towards the intersection of LGBTQ+ human rights and faith. We are proud to showcase this important subject, revealing that faith, religion, and LGBTQ+ rights co-exist in harmony and not in opposition.

Celebrating Black Pride All Year Round & Supporting Our Community During Suicide Awareness Month

As we reflect on the vibrant celebrations of Black Pride, let us remember that Black Pride is not confined to a single month or event. The richness of Black Trans and Queer lives is something to be honored and uplifted every single day. Our communities, filled with resilience, creativity, and profound wisdom, remind us that Black Trans and Queer Lives Matter—not just during Pride, but always.

In the same breath, we acknowledge that September is Suicide Awareness Month. This is a time to remind our loved ones that they are not alone. The struggles faced by many in our community can be overwhelming, and too often, those struggles are carried in silence. It is our collective responsibility to reach out, to check in, and to offer our presence and support.

Let us be the voices that remind our siblings, especially those who live at the intersections of multiple identities, that their lives are sacred and their existence is celebrated. Whether through prayer, a simple text, or a compassionate conversation, let’s commit to being the lifelines our community needs.

Remember, the work of love, justice, and advocacy is continuous. Together, we can create a world where every member of our community feels seen, heard, and valued.
