Spring Semester South Georgia Advocacy Intern

Duration: 10-12 weeks

Hours: The candidate must firmly commit to at least 5 hours per week, with a flexible schedule based on class commitments.

Location: The internship will be primarily remote, with some in-person, off-site events to be done.

At Georgia Equality, our mission is to advance LGBTQ+ equality, and we invite a dedicated
undergraduate and graduate student to join our team as a South Georgia Advocacy Intern for the spring semester. As a South Georgia Advocacy Intern, you will play an integral role in advancing our mission, which focuses on community outreach and education, voter engagement, legislative advocacy, and actively contributing to our lobbying and policy-building agenda. This internship program offers students a unique opportunity to gain insights into the workings of a non-profit organization, develop essential leadership skills, and actively engage with their community in pursuit of our mission.

Duties:

  • Actively support our mission in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality by assisting in advocacy tasks and projects. This includes organizing events, community outreach, and legislative tracking.

  • Provide remote administrative support to ensure efficient operations that further our goal of
    creating a more inclusive society.

  • Engage with the community by participating in both virtual and in-person events and meetings, actively contributing to our mission of advancing equality.

  • Assist with Georgia Equality’s voter registration and civic engagement efforts.

  • Help update and manage our database with information on newly introduced LGBTQ bills, and participate in rapid responses to anti-LGBTQ incidents.

  • Play a key role in educating the community about newly introduced anti-LGBTQ bills.

Skill Requirements:

  • Must be in Southeast Georgia and willing to attend in-person events in the Savannah,
    Statesboro, and Swainsboro areas.

  • A deep passion for social justice and LGBTQ+ equality in rural Georgia and in the Southeastern region of Georgia.

  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey our message of inclusivity, furthering our mission.

  • Digital and social media proficiency

  • Networking and relationship-building skills

  • Proficiency in computer skills for efficient remote collaboration to support our advocacy efforts.

  • A detail-oriented and organized approach to your work, ensuring our mission's success.

  • Research and analysis abilities.

  • Self-motivation and a willingness to take initiative in supporting our mission.

  • Quick adaptability in a dynamic environment.

  • Flexibility in your approach to meeting the evolving needs of our mission.
