Fall Semester Development & Communications Intern
Duration: 10-12 weeks
Students receiving course credit preferred, not required.
Hours: The candidate must firmly commit to at least 10 hours per week with daily hours depending on the student’s class schedule and availability.
Location: Internship will be primarily remote, with some in-person, off-site events to be done. Occasional visits to Georgia Equality office (1530 DeKalb Avenue, Atlanta, GA) may be requested.
Georgia Equality is looking for current undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in communications, public relations, non-profit leadership or any other related discipline. Throughout the fall semester, students will have the opportunity to engage individuals and organizations in the fight for LGBTQ equality, while learning the various aspects of how a non-profit works. The program will allow students to enhance their leadership skills as well as exposure to the larger community.
The intern will work closely with Georgia Equality’s development and communications team to execute integrated social, event, and email marketing campaigns. We look for candidates who have excellent written and oral communications skills and a desire to learn in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. The intern will continuously build upon basic skills, like:
- Working with print and digital media
- Graphic design
- Project coordination and execution
Due to the nature of our work, there will be other activities added as organizational needs arise.
Duties:
- Assist in coordination of marketing campaigns across email, website, and social media channels to drive event attendance, giving campaigns, political advocacy, list sign-ups, and overall awareness
- Write and copy edit creative materials, and schedule delivery of emails, social media posts, blog posts, etc.
- Design creative materials using graphic design software to engage followers and drive community-building via social media
- Brainstorm content ideas and assist with video creation for TikTok
- Basic website management (event calendar, minor edits, updating images, etc.)
- Process data and complete data entry for online database management system
- Grow the individual donor cultivation program by thanking donors and brainstorming new methods of cultivation
- Provide occasional, in-person event support
Skill Requirements:
- Have a strong passion for social justice and pro-LGBTQ equality
- Have a basic knowledge of Georgia and national LGBTQ politics
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with graphic design programs (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut)
- Firm grasp of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok)
- Experience with WordPress a plus
- Event planning experience
- Strong basic computer skills and knowledge of desktop PC based systems and mobile devices
- Experience with creative writing, blogging, digital content creation, video production, etc.
- Be organized and detail-oriented
- Self-motivated and examples of initiative
- Strong ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced, high-change environment
- Flexibility
