Yesterday, Judge Michael Boggs sat for confirmation hearings in front of the Judiciary Committee of the US Senate having been nominated for Judge of the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Today, Georgia Equality and the Human Rights Campaign Atlanta Steering Committee will be sending a letter to Georgia’s US Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson encouraging them to oppose Judge Boggs’ nomination. Read the entire letter here. We know that hearing from us will help, but hearing from individual constituents is incredibly powerful. Click below to send our Senators a message and urge them to oppose this nomination.
As a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, Judge Boggs was one of the most outspoken proponents of Georgia’s constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. Speaking on the floor of Georgia House of Representatives he said he would:
“stand up for things that are commonsensical; things that are premised on good conservative Christian values, and, in this instance in particular, to support the sanctity of marriage.
Whoever is confirmed by the Senate to fill this seat will have to opportunity to rule on matters that can have huge impacts on the every day lives of LGBT Georgians and that person cannot be Judge Boggs. Click below to tell our Senators to oppose this nomination.
