In partnership with Auburn Avenue Research Library, The Counter Narrative Project and Georgia Equality present World AIDS Day-Atlanta Living With- an art-infused lunch & learn discussion series. All discussions will take place at the Auburn Avenue Research Library and are open to the public. The topics, outlined below, will follow the theme of Race & HIV and will feature prominent local panelists and speakers from a variety of backgrounds.

Session Overview

This community conversation will feature local reproductive justice experts discussing HIV through a reproductive justice lens. Presenters will share insight into the racial context of HIV and reproductive health service provision and explore a path forward for centering women’s lives in the fight against our regional epidemic.

Session Overview

This community conversation will feature expert opinions on the topic of HIV criminalization and its impact in communities of color, particularly those most impacted by HIV. An expert panel will discuss Georgia’s HIV criminalization laws and their significance for HIV prevention, care and the public’s health. Social justice advocates from the Georgia Coalition to End HIV Criminalization will discuss the importance of legislative reform as an HIV advocacy issue.

Session Overview

Led by local advocates, this session will center a discussion on race and racism inside organizations designed to serve people living with and at risk for HIV. Advocates will discuss ways to identify and address institutionalized racism in HIV service provision and promote the meaningful involvement of people of color living with HIV.

Hosted by the Counter Narrative Project, this discussion will focus on the timeline of the AIDS crisis in the United States through the lens of racial equity. Stories will focus on the voices and work of black, gay artists who spoke and wrote about HIV in the 1980s and 1990s, and local artifacts will be on display in a visual timeline of HIV in Atlanta.
