Georgia Equality Around the State: October 2017

Here’s your quick look back at where Georgia Equality was last month!

Athens:
UGA College of Education
On October 16th GE’s Senior Field Organizer Rob Woods participated in the University Of Georgia College Of Education’s panel discussion on LGBTQIA advocacy. Rob was joined by Kelvin Rutledge representing UGA GLOBES. The primary topics for the panel discussion included LGBTQIA Advocacy in Georgia, issues facing LGTBQIA youth in K-12 schooling, how educators can create a safe environment for our LGBTQIA youth, and the state’s need for comprehensive civil rights.

Macon:
As part of LGBT History Month Wesleyan College, Mercer University and Middle Georgia State University held the Macon-Bibb Community Forum on Civil Rights. The event, co-sponsored by GE, was held at Wesleyan College. The forum’s goal was to discuss the challenges and benefits of comprehensive civil rights in Georgia; and to show why comprehensive civil rights are imperative for advancing equity and inclusion throughout the state. Panelist for the forum included Dr. Christopher Lawrence – Political Scientist at Middle Georgia State University, Claire Cox of Georgia Women (And Those Who Stand With Us), Tyler Schwaller – Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and Ackerman/Hurdle Chaplaincy Chair at Wesleyan College, Bentley Hudgins Community Engagement Associate at ACLU of Georgia and GE’s Senior Field Organizer Rob Woods.
